Migration

With its proprietary software, system tools and migration plan, PBSI provides its customers with a technology-driven migration where the legacy application software operates in the new environment in a manner consistent with legacy operation. The advantage to this migration approach is to concentrate on the legacy system migration while preserving the business rules that drive system functionality. Once the migration is completed, the post-migration task of updating system functionality can be addressed.

In addition to the technical challenges of achieving the migration project goals, PBSI prepares its client's IT staff to be self-sufficient in the new environment promptly after the migration is complete. PBSI's migration project plan and technical service provides strong focus on those activities that prepare the client's staff for assuming responsibility for the post-migration environment.

Ultimately, none of the migration steps are of value if the client's technical team is not ready to assume post-deployment system support responsibility. Therefore, to ensure that the client's technical staff is ready to assume their new role, PBSI creates customized training classes at the software developer, computer operations and user levels to ensure that the new systems are well supported and productively used. From a technical point of view, this training includes instruction on the .NET framework, web application development, the selected target programming language, as well as education about .NET web applications architecture, object-oriented programming, and object libraries with world class .NET tools and software components.

It is common for companies to take the first step toward migration by extending their iSeries core business applications. The extension approach allows the customer to choose when, where, and what will be extended. Each system and application software implementation has its own unique requirements that will determine the extension/migration steps to take. PBSI offers system audit services to identify applications that can be extended versus the applications that would better lend themselves to a complete migration.
